This logo is for a travel guide focused on Santa Cruz, a canton (county) located in the province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica that features some of the most beautiful beaches, surf breaks and national parks in all of Costa Rica.
Some of the beautiful destinations in the canton of Santa Cruz include the world famous surf beach Tamarindo, Playa Negra, Playa Langosta, Playa Flamingo, Portrero, Las Catalinas, and many others.
One way to look at this project is to look at it as if it was a surf lifestyle brand. The beaches in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste are world famous. Tamarindo was featured in the classic surf film The Endless Summer and The Endless Summer 2. So along with being a travel guide we'd like to eventually turn it into a lifestyle brand. So the logo should work well for things like apparel, etc.

Other notes
I'd like to stay away from something that looks like the Santa Cruz skateboard logo.
I'd also love to see the Costa Rican flag and/or flag colors incorporated into the logo. Although this isn't a hard requirement. I'm flexible here.
Logo should work well for a variety of usage AND in black and white. Logo would be used on the web as well as on apparel.
