Following your suggestions, I focused on a design that would work with the vintage sunburst, with or without the illustration and stand alone. I started with a cut-out type to make use of the filled in bowl counters. The hand-drawn style is more reminiscent of folk art in blues music traditions. the final steps included adding a distressed texture that alluded to a sweet potato skin and pulls from vintage stamp inked textures and paint in the aforementioned classic folk/blues art. Likewise, there are slight warm effects and rotations applied to each word such that grow and stretch to meet one another while remaining readable. The narrow length and width of each character enforced the idea of the name \"slim.\"")

I created a basic stacked logo, and then I used the letter forms to create the letter marks. (Modified from original with no cutout in the letter \"A\"). Then I created the barbed rake (with leaves and wire adornments to give it a more illustrative feel), as noted in the brief.
The combination mark uses all the elements and a directional sign with the horizontal word mark cut out of the arrow shapes.")

The dashed stroke as well as the overall distress add a worn feel faded blue shade allude to casual, durable, & American sensibilities.")

I added a stroke and drop shadow to give it that same effect Crumb often used. Next, I worked on the character using linocut brushes and hand-drawing to get that pen and ink effect in a vector image. Finally, I worked on the layout of the 2 branding elements together and added a stroke around the wordmark to add some separation from the image. I")
