Long ago, the gods bestowed the exalted arts upon all creatures, so that they might better themselves. Du Enkai dreams of acquiring his own Path and practicing the exalted arts alongside his father. However, when he undergoes the Ritual of Waking to awaken his spirit and obtain his Path, the ritual fails and the Du Patriarch declares him Forsaken, cursed by the gods to never cultivate the exalted arts. Crushed by the revelation, Enkai must accompany his father to parts unknown in the hopes that his desolate soul can be restored.
