Long before Madonna or Courtney Love, in part due to punk's D.I.Y. philosophy, women in the 70s began to express their sexual identities and preferences without outside interference. Debbie Harry is mostly known for her role as lead singer in punk-rock band, Blondie. Unlike the Sex Pistols, Ramones and Television, Blondie became the first crossover punk phenomenon.
She was a pioneer of the music that we know today as 'New-Wave'. She have influenced many female fronted bands such as No Doubt, Garbage, The Cardigans, even Madonna. But, has also had an impact on male musicians such as, Smashing Pumpkins, Blur and Gun Club. To this very day, she continues to be a Punk Icon and inspiration for lots of new wave and alternative groups.
The Mother of New-Wave, The Post-Punk Princess, Harry achieved pop culture immortality. Plus, she is one of Andy Warhol's closest friend.
