The client wanted the cover to convey a sense of something ominous and was not after a literal picture. My aim was to emphasize the contrast between the holiday season and the main protagonist's emotional state. Fog, blurred car lights in the background, snow melting and the drops ominously sliding down the pine needles almost like tears. :-)")

While the story is about addiction, it is more about broken, wounded hearts on both sides - described as soggy red confetti. As such, the client was less interested in seeing drugs on the cover and more something that illustrates the title. They wanted the artwork to illustrate the despair and the struggle to overcome. The broken yellow leaf symbolizes their broken hearts and hardship they went through.")
