Description of the product
The ReneGait Spartan is a mechanical tool that helps people re-learn to walk with the proper body kinematics. It is a physical therapy tool that is primarily useful to the neurologically disabled and physical therapists who treat them. It will be sold to therapy clinics and people doing their own therapy at home. Generally, the users are wheelchair-bound or have some degree of impairment in their ability to walk. The Spartan straps onto their legs and allows a second person (the "operator") to assist the user in any needed areas (like hip flexion, knee straightening, picking up the foot, etc.). This form of therapy is physically intensive and very beneficial for physiological health as well as motor control (regaining the ability to move muscles that you couldn't before). The Spartan addresses a large gap in the current PTs tool set for gait training. The gap is between the robotic gait trainers, which are very expensive, and the manual hands-on methods that PTs will use, which doesn't work as well.
Description of the product target audience
Using the Spartan is a 2 person activity. There is the person wearing the device doing the therapy, I call the "user," and the person who is handling the device to help the user walk, I call the "operator." The user is in most cases a person, aged 15-80, male or female, who has suffered some neurological trauma or disease and has lost some or much use of their body. They are actively trying to rehabilitate their body to restore function, or, they are trying to maintain health (bone density, circulation, skin integrity, etc.). The operator will usually be a PT or personal trainer who works in a clinic that specializes in treating neurological disabilities. They can also be a family member, friend, nurse, or personal assistant who helps the user do therapy at home.
On the front: Some simple, somewhat abstract, somewhat minimal illustration that captures gait training with the Spartan, or the spirit of it. People who use the Spartan are the aggressive type that are not afraid of hard work, so let it be an aggressive image that matches the product's name. The image can go directly in the center. Below the image, simply the name "SPARTAN" Below SPARTAN, have "A New Kind of Gait Trainer" At the top of the front, the logo (use the one with no tagline). On the back, an image of the Spartan itself, centered, with the words below it: "MEET YOUR BODY'S POTENTIAL" For the Spartan image, use the PNF file attached ("SPTN"). Keep the image very high quality, but trim away the boarded and excess stuff that isn't the pair of devices.
These boxes will be L x W x H --> 24" X 12" X 18" (inches)

And then… they selected a winner!
el_ouz has quite the eye for aesthetic quality, and matching the work to what the partner is looking for. In the project I awarded her my instructions were fairly open ended, and I had an idea of what I wanted but my artistic vocabulary was lacking. Despite this, el_ouz hit a grand slam. More importantly than that, however, was the work she did post-completion. I had to ask her for several edits due to changing demands on my side, and although she had no obligation to do them, she came through. I will be returning to el-ouz for future projects.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
