Currently, WE sell the chocolate to people who walk into our shop. We'd like our packaging to be so beautiful that it SELLS the chocolate itself.
- the packaging needs to reflect the different price points (quality) per product
- there needs to be a cohesive look n feel across the whole product range (currently we are using mainly generic packaging some of which looks conservative, some rustic, along with semi-professional customized packaging)
- the sole common thread linking products across the whole range is our logo and the play on words using the triple "m" of our name, e.g., "mmmad about chocolate" (we've been using colour to highlight that the triple m in "mmmad" is intentional rather than a typo).
We need ultimately a quality chocolate bark bag design, a premium quality bar design for our single origin chocolates, and a box design. But , just initially, just stick to one of these and then once we've got a look that we like, and chosen the winner, that can then be developed along the line for the box/bag/bar
DESIGNS WE NEED
1 - BAG DESIGN - a Chocolate Bark bag design which we can print in different colours (don't worry so much about colour combinations). - see the photos of our existing bags which our on our shelves.
COMMON DESIGN ELEMENTS -
Size. 10cm wide x 18cm height x 4cm depth
Logo (and address on the back of the bag).
Die cut - to expose the chocolate inside - prefer the die cut to be middle/lower end of the bag in case chocolate slips inside the bag - we prefer curve/ cocoa pod to a rectangular cut.
I found this article about creative die cuts here - http://designinstruct.com/print-design/creative-ideas-custom-die-cutting/
Material - heavy paper/cardboard and ribbon or cord.
colours and labels will change on the bags - the labels will explain the flavours and names of our chocolates - some examples of chocolate bark we sell are -
milk salted almonds, dark salted almonds, dark with orange, dark with sea salt, bee happy - (mijas honey and pollen with dark chocolate), pure dark, pure milk, pure white.
The label should be affixed to the top of the bag, that way it serves two purposes - it displays the flavour/name of the chocolate (FRONT), the blurb, ingredients, net weight and bar code (BACK), and additionally it seals the bag.
most probably the label should have our logo at the top and then underneath a description of the flavour so that the description appears in the middle of the bag.

2 - BOX DESIGN - we'd like a common design which we can then use for boxes of different sizes - for example 9 truffles, 12 truffles, 18 bonbons, 24 bonbons, 32 bonbons etc.
Examples of box /packaging design which we like are - http://boutique.patrickroger.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=246

3- CHOCOLATE BAR WRAPPER DESIGN. Our bars are wrapped in bright coloured foils (magenta, copper, olive green). Our logo, and we'd love a die cut to expose the foil wrapping underneath the wrapper.
1. Definition & Repetition of Common Elements throughout the whole product range (carrier bags, bonbon boxes, bar sleeves, bark bags, workshop chocolate bags, stickers, etc)
- Colours (we would like our hallmark colours to be the beautiful vibrant changing tones of the cacao pod as it ripens on the tree, along with different chocolate tones........could metallic or pearlized paper be used for variety of effect?)
- Font (we had been using "Prosto" and are just changing over to "Subway Novella" for which we have paid licence fees). That said, we don´t want to limit your creativity - if you feel that another type represents the brand identity more, bring it on please!
We've currently use 10 bags of different colour combinations for our chocolate bark (e.g., red = dark/milk/white chilli chocs, blue = dark/milk/white salted chocs, pale green = mint chocs, etc). The bags (as you can see in the photo) hang on a ribbon and hang on the shelves in our shop.
The bags currently have a watermarked world map - we've included this file as a subtle texture. We're happy to go with any other design or even have no texture to create a higher & more meaningful visual impact.
We're unhappy with the bags- mechanically they are not sound as they have a single point of attachment instead of two, with the ribbon being held in place by a mere sticker, thus they break. Also, the window cut-out which displays the chocolate inside the bag is ugly/uninspiring. We'd like a custom die-cut of our logo (or just the monkey part perhaps) or something even more relevant/captivating to display the chocolate in a more interesting, attention-grabbing fashion.
CHOCOLATE BARK = QUALITY
SINGLE ORIGIN = MAXIMUM QUALITY
CHOCOLATE BONBONS =MAXIMUM QUALITY
CHOCOLATE BARK: at the moment, we have around 40 different bark flavours - we produce the individual labels ourselves inhouse and they look ultra-amateur, printing on a white background which jars with the blue/red/etc background of the bags. We don't believe that we are at the stage yet where our product line is developed enough to have the bags printed with all our different flavours (as we are still in the process of deciding a final list of chocolate varities). However, the best-selling chocolates could definitely have the labels printed onto the bags, e.g. "Cadiz 1544", "Salted Almonds", "Tom Kha Gai", etc.
SINGLE ORIGIN 100g BARS: foil-wrapped, then placed in a paper bag which is closed with an inhouse printed label (see attached example). Since these are amongst our finest chocolates, they require a really beautiful package (either a sleeve or a box) that transmits quality & our vibe.
SINGLE ORIGIN GIFTBOXES: we need a giftbox design which we can then apply to different size formats (e.g. four 100g bars, eight 100g bars, sixteen 11g bars)
BONBONS LOOSE: a bag to hold up to 200g of bonbons - should shout quality (design & materials)
BONBON GIFTBOXES : we need a giftbox design which we can then apply to different size formats (e.g. 2 bonbon Pillow Chocolate Box, 9 bonbon giftbox, 18 bonbon giftbox, 36 bonbon giftbox)
WORKSHOP BAG: this needs to hold three 100g bars made by workshop participants. Note: currently, we use the same type of bag for both workshop bars and for loose bonbons. The size can stay the same, however, the quality of paper and print should vary. For example, the workshop bag should be printed with our logo (revised?) as well as "mmmade by" BLANK SPACE (participant´s name goes here) and "mmmade for" BLANK SPACE (filled in where appropriate).
