Gwh3 got their new product packaging by running a design contest:
Hot! New e-Cig Company! Smoking Vapor - Needs Your Talent!

Food & Drink
We manufacturer, market and distribute e-cigars and e-cigarettes. Our specialty is all about having the best flavors and creating a more enjoyable experience for the user. We target smokers, "social smokers" i.e the ones who only smoke when they drink, and anyone who is looking for a flavorful experience (over 18)
What's your vision?
We need to create a cohesive packaging strategy that plays to our strengths and fits within the requirements of the retailers. We sell e-cigars and e-cigarettes. The Cigar is only Tobacco flavor. The Cigs we have hooka flavors of: Strawberry, Vanilla, Green Apple, Grape, Watermelon, Menthol (mint), and Tobacco
Overall we are looking for: 1.) Design/Color of the e-cig flavors and the e-cigar itself - Should our tips be blue or should the LED light represent the flavor. Pink, Green, Purple, White, Red etc... How to differentiate the flavor on the cig itself?
2.) Wrapper or tube or box enclosure ideas for flavors, basic and e-cigar - (See notes below for details) Flavor names can change to be more tantalizing. Imagery should draw people in. High-end feel like 5Gum. We are open to creative suggestion. Strawberry Daiquiri vs. Strawberry - or not.
3.) Brand and/or Taglines that tie into the strengths and creatively elevate our product and the experience. Maybe we use SV like Louie Vuitton uses LV.
Inspiration can come from anywhere, not just the images we attach. I like the look and feel of the way 5GUM has created a high-end clubby feel for their gum that is colorful and fun, yet the matte black and the embossed gloss areas in black look really sharp. The do a great job with the color accents, and the "Stimulate the Senses" tagline is great. Any ideas are welcome. For this exercise, we are focused on our disposables. (MORE DETAILS if you want them) To better understand what we are about which plays into the design of the product packaging it is important to know our strengths as Smoking Vapor: Strength 1.) 'Its all about the flavor'. When I see our assortment, it reminds me of Skittles. I want to steal their tag line "taste the rainbow" if I could, but alas - its trademarked. The Hooka flavors are going to be the key and we need to design the packaging for each to be similar and hold a centralized design and brand identity, yet evoke the flavor they represent. (For examples of companies that do this well, see the liquor companies - Absolut, Three Olives Vodkas - they have flavors, but are true to the brand identity.) Strength 2.) The size and shape and weight of our disposable e-cig is far better than Blu (the leading ecig company). There product uses a heavy and very long battery. Ours is just the right weight and similar in length to a standard 100 cigarette. Our customers love the feel of it in their mouth. It also has a soft tip, much like the filter on a cigarette to make the customers feel more like they are smoking. This length plays into the packaging shape. Strength 3.) The e-cigar we make tastes like a real cigar and feels like a real cigar. But contains 99.9% less chemicals than a real cigar. When you smoke it, you are inhaling water vapor, not smoke - so it is also safe for those around you, and the vapor does not have a lasting odor like real cigars, so it is ok to be around other people. But it looks like you are smoking a cigar. Great for the golf course, a wine bar, patio with friends, around a fireplace with scotch, at a poker game, etc. From a packaging perspective, we have a reusable/resealable tube that they come in now (pictures should be attached.) While this is great for when we sell from our kiosks, I worry it is not conducive to the way retailers merchandise cigarettes, and since you have to be 18 to buy e-cigs, we have to assume they will be placed in the same place in stores as the cigarettes, so we need to conform somewhat to how they merchandise in order to be successful. Companies like Blu and Vuse (by RJR Vapor) are owned by the large cig companies and know how to create packaging. I am ok leveraging their expertise and emulating some similarities, i.e. needs to have a peg hole for hanging, should be about the same height, etc. Are there cool ways to do the package? Should it be a 3pk of SmokingVapor that is similar in shape to regular cig pack? Should it be sleeker, thinner, closer to size of iphone? Should it be called Vaping and not smoking?
Feel free to ask questions and we will reply as quickly as we can. This is an important project and the proposal will go to the CEO.
