SOCIAL MARKETING SOLUTIONS / PSI ROMANIA is part of Population Services International, a global network of NGOs focused on population health improvement in vulnerable areas through social marketing interventions. In Romania, a European Union member state with a population of 19 mil, we are the owners of a well known condom brand - LOVE PLUS, launched on the Romanian market in the early 2000s, having held one of the leading positions ever since. Some data on business evolution: - Over 100 million condoms distributed between 1999-2015; - Love Plus is the only commercial brand in Romania involved in youth educational programs; - Constant shelf presence at affordable price that forced competitiveness into category leading to category development. Target audience: Young adults (19-29), urban, male & female.
What's your vision?
Design new packaging for Love Plus condoms. Love Plus is currently undergoing a strengthening of its national distribution to become more accessible to Romanian consumers. A refreshing of the packaging is thus optimal to bring additional attention to the brand/product, and to better reflect brand positioning. The previous packaging change was in November 2008 – the packaging moved from fun, sexy, youthful and cool to a more serious, pharmaceutical look. Still, we are receiving feedback that the packaging does not pop, is not visible, is dull and not attractive within category (see current range for reference). Love Plus is about high quality and confidence which allow for worry-free sex and love. The new packaging should incorporate the current positioning, whilst retaining the various elements of on-pack communication (e.g. quality symbols, functional characteristics of variants, see attachments). We are looking for a change in packaging for Love Plus products that reflects current trends in package design and makes the product more appealing, suggesting confidence in use and the high quality standards we’re committed to and known for. While Love Plus products are not the most expensive on the local market, the new packaging must look expensive and sophisticated, suggesting a premium product, a serious and mature brand that can be trusted by smart, sexually responsible people. Our product range is quite diverse. Currently, Love Plus comes in 8 variants (Classic, Sensations, Strawberry, Intense, Safe Plus, Thinesse, Big Max, Economy Mix), however this design contest is limited to only 3 of these. As 99designs allows for a two-step process, in the first round designers should submit proposals showcasing one SKU, Love Plus Classic. In the final round, contestants picked to go forward would then expand their design proposal to cover two more Love Plus SKUs, showcasing a total of 3 Love Plus variants: Classic, Sensations, Thinesse. After picking a winner for this contest, we are looking forward to working directly with them on designing the rest of the SKUs in our product range, following the same design theme. REQUIREMENTS DOs: The overall design must be clean, not crowded by too many graphic elements, appealing to educated young adults, both male and female (75% of condom buyers are male). Keep the current dimensions and structure of the packs (all 3 SKUs have the same specs, see below for measurements). Keep the general color-coding of variants, as these are very important to consumers (they identify product variants based on general colors). Keep or refresh symbols (product icon, global guarantee icon, 100% electronically tested icon). Refresh the Triple Tested symbol. Make sure the front panel of the pack has a freer area, allowing for temporary placement of small stickers or promotional messages without covering or interfering with important elements. Minor changes can be made to the Love Plus logo as well. DON’Ts Love Plus communication is NOT: - about sex; - about explicitly erotic imagery or nudity (subtle and clever allusions may work though); - about pleasure or enhancing it, orgasms, or breaking the bed into pieces; - about avoiding abortions (negatives do not work, they generate immediate rejection); - superficial, adventurous, teenage, funny; - about condoms per se (it’s about a brand benefit); - about sexual products (what we provide is safety and confidence); - good looking babes; - following/copying the market leader, Durex. Submitted proposals should be images showing tridimensional packs (Love Plus Classic in the qualifying round; Classic, Sensations and Thinesse in the final round). Winner will provide ready-for-print vector files, in AI format and CMYK color space (or Pantone), for each of the 3 SKUs. Text appearing on back of pack (slightly differing between variants) will be made available once the winner is picked. Pack measurements 3 pack (W: 60mm; H: 58mm, Depth: 18mm)
Once the contest finalized, we shall work directly with the winner, as a separate project, on designing the rest of the Love Plus SKU packs following the winning design theme. And also on designing a line of Love Plus lubricants, in the near future.
