Description of the product
Bocelli wines are owned by world famous musician Andrea Bocelli and his brother Alberto. They are the 17th generation of Bocelli winery owners. The winery was started in 1831. The label needs to be upscale and elegant.
Description of the product target audience
College educated urban professionals, 60-40 men/women
The goal is to redesign the entry level of Bocelli wines to create a similar look that can be used throughout the world. Currently there are several different labels in different countries. We are open to many designs, but the ultimate goal will be to use the parameters below and come up with an elegant and modern design. To start with we would like the design to focus on the Sangiovese which will be in a traditional red wine bottle. Current US Label – We like the clean look of this design but believe it needs to be updated and improved. We prefer the European brand font. Right now, the US label has a die-cut. We can keep with this design but are totally open to not having this die-cut or having a different design. The one thing that we would like to see is to eliminate the second small label below the main label. Font – The strategy is to move away from the script font in the current US label to something closer to the European ‘BOCELLI’ font. It does not have to be the exact European font but something that would fit in the same family of fonts. The size, color and where it is placed on the label are open for design. Brand Name – The brand name is ‘Bocelli’ but the family wants to promote the date the winery was started ‘1831’. We are open to designs that have the ‘Bocelli’ name prominently but then the ‘1831’ needs to be creatively incorporated into the label. It could be in a die-cut, embossed, watermarked or another design/print option. We are also open to looking at some designs that almost make the brand name be ‘Bocelli 1831’. Either of these options are possible. Design Icon – The current element that is in the diecut does not need to be on the new label. Label shape and color – We are open to die cuts like the US label or it can be traditional in shape. The label does not need to be the same color as the US label but should likely stay lighter in color rather than a dark label. We are open to have the paper the label is printed on being a clean look or it could be a toothy or textured paper. We are also open to using foils or embossing.
What to avoid
We want the logo to be upscale and not look cheap. We like the way Prada uses their font and branding.

And then… they selected a winner!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
