What industry do you think your business is most related to?
Food & Drink
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
We are small scale producers of chutneys, relishes, mustards and jams that we sell primarily to tourists who come to Salt Spring Island (Canada) for their summer vacations. We sell at an open air market on the island and are one of about 120 vendors. Our product is artisanal and we are looking into expanding in to several up scale food retailers in Victoria and Vancouver.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
We want a redesigned label. We used our logo (see sample images below) for the past six years and have always had good feed back on our design. We therefore have some attachment to our current logo and font and would be happy to have it "freshened", but if someone has a great idea we are also open to a new design. We are going through this process in part because we have changed from round jars with white lids to square jars with black lids. Our competitors at the market all have round jars and the square ones will help us to further distinguish our products from theirs.
Our new square jars come in two sizes and our label sizes are 4.5 cm wide and 6.6cm high for the large jar and 33% smaller for the other jar. The corners of the jars have slightly rounded edges and we do not want a wraparound label.
We want two colour printing on a white label and have included a couple of images of labels that we really like below (see Jules + Kent and Trotters)
Only 4 pieces of info are needed on the label:
- the logo,
- our name - Stir Crazy on Salt Spring
- the name of the product - we have a dozen products ie Wicked Mustard Relish, Apple Rhubarb Chutney, Traffic Jam...
- the volume of the jar 292 ml and 110 ml
