We craft hand-made gourmet hot sauce in small batches in Toronto, Canada. I'm starting a marketing revolution in the hot sauce industry. The winning bottle label will be the face of this new era in taste. Hot sauce today is marketed in 1 of 2 ways: ethnicity or machismo. Ethnic sauces are Asian, Mexican, etc. You know these. Pictures of chili peppers and descriptions of old family recipes and tradition. Boring. The macho sauces are branded the same way biker gangs are. Flames. Skulls. All about how it's soooo much hotter than other sauces and how much of a tough guy you have to be to eat them. Who cares? The Good Wood is different. There are many good reasons to eat hot sauce and not because it will prove how manly you are or how ethnic your cooking can be. Hot sauce is an aphrodisiac. The burn is followed by a euphoria. It tastes so good, and that's sensual. Pleasure is good. Our ancestors wouldn't have spent 30,000 years cultivating Habaneros if they just made your mouth hurt with no up side. The Good Wood is a luxury. It's a rare commodity and a delicacy. I need a graphic representation of this, this brand new way of thinking about spicy food and the pleasure it can bring to your body. My technique evolved from my background in wine-making and my reverse engineering of ancient food preservation methods. This is not your Dad's hot sauce. So it can't have your Dad's hot sauce's label either.
What's your vision?
I need a label for my first sauce. It will be a bottle label for a 5 oz woozy bottle (typical hot sauce bottle shape). Size: It must be either 3 inches tall by 5 inches wide, or 1inch tall by 4 inches wide. I prefer the 1x4. The bottles are approx. 4.5cm (1.75 inches) in diameter across, to give you an idea of the skinny frontage you're dealing with. It must include the following: The Good Wood Hot Sauce Hand-crafted in small batches in Toronto, Canada Made of Peppers, Water, Vinegar, Salt Facebook.com/GoodWoodSauce GetABurnOn.com Everyone Dines. Not Everyone Truly Lives. Net Wt. 5oz (142g) and either: Chill. Shake. Enjoy. Repeat. or: Keep Refrigerated Shake it like you mean it!
I want something totally different than what's being done to market hot sauce today. This is an opportunity to re-think the way hot sauce is branded. The bottles are clear. The caps are black. The sauce itself if bright orange-red and has visible bits of hot pepper seeds (white) and small black flecks of charred pepper skins. I am inspired by simple, elegant labels, black and gold, like Johnnie Walker Black Label's bottle label, but am open to anything.
