I am looking for a cover for a police procedural book. The cover will be used for Kindle and CreateSpace. For this contest I want designers to focus on a 6 x 9 front cover. When the contest is over, however, I will also need the full cover. I can give the spine width later, and the back will likely be only descriptive text and a photo of me or a repeat of one aspect of the front cover. Definitely no new "creative" work.
In the book, the main detective is a shorter, well-muscled and feisty Caucasian who wears his brunette hair shoulder-length, sometimes loose, sometimes tied back. He is also given to cowboy boots. (Think Christian Kane on "Leverage.") His partner is a large, highly-educated and always genial well-dressed African-American man who is often asked if he plays professional football. They are trying to catch a serial killer who makes the first kill and then waits, returns to the scene of the crime while the police are there, and daringly kills a uniformed police officer. Every time. The two police detectives and a dead cop each time are the most outstanding figures in the book. In their investigations, however, there are colorful suspects---a female impersonator good enough to fool the eye close-up, a gang of college students dressed in black with masks, a feisty female lawyer with auburn curly hair.
The cover should contain the title, "Deathblow;" the author's name, "Joan Sween;" and the tag line, "The Encore Killer Always Returns."
I like color and contrast. I do not like something that is too dark and too murky. I prefer singular eye-catching design elements over a design filled with blended elements.
I comment on every design, so please return and read my reactions often, because they will be helpful.
