Ron.bradbury got their new print or packaging design by running a design contest:
Design 1 poster; more where that came from!

Private high school, grades 6 - 12, for boarding students and day students.
What's your vision?
I need “posters” (@ 29.375 inches by 38.75 inches) for a 3-sided, static display case. My initial concept is that each poster would be basically words and graphics, or perhaps more precisely, a graphical presentation of words. Each poster would be printed on foam core board-full color, full bleed. The display case sits in the campus center at www.houghton.edu and promotes the high school where I work. I plan to use 99designs for the first poster then work directly with the designer for the other two. The text I'd like to work with on the first poster is the longest of the three: “In my view there is a sense in which education ought to be democratic and another sense in which it ought not. It ought to be democratic in the sense of being available, without distinction of sex, colour, class, race, or religion, to all who can—and will—diligently accept it. But once the young people are inside the school there must be no attempt to establish a factitious egalitarianism between the idlers and dunces on the one hand and the clever and industrious on the other. A modern nation needs a very large class of genuinely educated people and it is the primary function of schools and universities to supply them. To lower standards or disguise inequalities is fatal.” Source: Lewis, C. S. The Screwtape Letters & Screwtape Proposes a Toast. New York: Macmillan, 1962. At least "C.S. Lewis" needs to appear on the poster, if not the entire citation. The poster will also need to reference my URL (www.houghtonacademy.org) and might include the commentary "It's OK to be awesome!"
The samples captured my attention not so much for their specific design features, but simply in that each is text and graphics and compelling. I need the end result to look good, but I don't have a design agenda--I'm open to whatever creative ideas look good. The setting of the display is fairly formal--lots of wood tones and fairly dark lighting. I can provide a photo or further describe the setting as necessary. My school's target audience is mainly aged 14-17, but by far the majority of traffic past the display will be college students and college professors at a Christian liberal arts college. The college has a very strong art department--so there will be some critical evaluation.
