How Chrisk2 started their print or packaging design journey
Who are you known as?
Town of Viking
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Viking is a small town in Alberta, Canada. This year we are holding a newly created town festival and hope to make it an annual event. Our festival theme is "Vikings in the Streets". The festival is being held on Saturday, June 25, 2011. We are planning many events throughout the day including a pancake breakfast, arts & crafts show and sale, farmers market, 4H and gymkana demonstrations, motorcycle show, penny carnival, sidewalk sale, street performers, beer gardens, and a charity street golf tournament with banquet, auction and dance. All of the events will have a Viking/Scandinavian feel/flavor to them (costumes, scandinavian art/crafts, scandinavian food ect.)
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
The project is to design a poster for the festival. We would like to carry the theme/colors from the poster through to all of our print and web communications. The poster should appeal to families, seniors, young adults, and kids.
Our festival is going to be different - so by all means feel free to be creative!
Most of the posters will be printed on white paper on our color laser with a maximum print size of 11" x 17". If we could reduce the poster and print some on 8.5" x 11" - that would be good.
The poster should be set up so we can easily change the body text - i.e.: one poster is advertising the art sale, another is advertising the motorcycle show, one is generic listing all events, ect., The "Vikings in the Streets Festival" would be present on all posters.
We have designed a logo for the festival - but because this is a new festival we are not hung up on it. Feel free to use it, polish it up or change it.
We need the main message from the poster to jump out with only a glance.
People should get: The poster is announcing a Festival, The festival has a Viking theme, The event is on xxxxx day, The festival is being held in Viking, Alberta (or Viking, AB), The festival will be fun for all.
We have access to Adobe CS3 so all standard file types are OK. If the winning designer is interested we would be willing to pay for some help with letterhead, cards website theme ext.
Viking is a small prairie town. There is a high percentage of seniors along with many young families. Main business in the area is grain and cattle farming and oil and gas production and servicing.
There are several similar Viking festivals held around the world. The Gimli Icelandic Festival and the Poulsbo, WA Viking Fest are similar to what we are trying to do.
