MosierData needed a new print or packaging design and created a contest on 99designs.
A winner was selected from 85 designs submitted by 23 freelance designers.
I hate to borrow from others, but I saw a summary for a previous contest that really makes the point:
The #1 objective of this cover is to SELL the book off bookstore shelves!
Attract attention, stop them in their tracks as they walk down the bookstore aisle, jump off the shelf at potential buyers, grab their attention, and make them think “I MUST HAVE this book!”
Infinity From Zero
Tagline:
“How to transform your ideas into successful businesses in a Web 2.0 world.”
Author:
James S. Mosier
Desired Color Scheme:
No prerequisites. Artist has total creative control.
Physical Size:
The book will be a 6 x 9 book. Your front and back covers should match this exact dimension plus a 1/8” bleed on all sides except the spine. The book will be between 1/2 and 1 inch thick, so you can be somewhat flexible with the spine, as it will almost certainly need adjustment at time of publishing.
Text Guidelines:
Book title “Infinity From Zero” should be sized so it is easily readable from 6-10 feet.
The Tagline “How to transform your ideas into successful businesses in a Web 2.0 world.” Should be sized to be easily readable from three feet.
The copyright for the winning book cover design once paid for will be wholly owned and all rights reserved by the author, whose company is sponsoring this contest.
