Soy Nero is about Nero, a born and raised Los Angeles resident who gets deported to Mexico. Although he is able to get back home to LA, he is unable to secure a legal means to stay. So he enlists in the Army and gets sent to Iraq. Thousands of Green Card soldiers have fought for our country, and yet thousands get deported.
This film has been selected for a theatrical release in late summer. It is a very controversial and topical subject matter, and the filmmaker, Rafi Pitts, has done some incredible storytelling. The poster for this contest will receive major exposure in theaters and throughout the film's release on different platforms.
We really want to convey the conflict embedded within the character of NERO being between two countries. We also want to convey the Green Card soldier in a heroic sense, perhaps between two countries.
What comes to mind is a young man (Nero) in uniform, with the emblems of Mexico and USA behind him. SOYNERO_185054.tif is a particularly strong image of the main character. Alternatively, a full body man in uniform (stock footage). The tricky part is how to convey the two countries, how these are embodied in the main character, and how there's a conflict. Flags/Geography with a border line? Eagles fighting? Color of each in background? There's a lot of ways to do this, but the soldier in a heroic position and the controversy/conflict should be in the art.
This is a drama, but it's also a war genre, so both of these should be felt in the style and tone.
Hope this info helps! Good luck and thanks to all.
Most of these were picked as they were from the war genre. There a few in particular that visually feel more captivating. The Sepia styled SICARIO is on of our favorites, with a nice compilation of the different characters within the silhouette of the girl. AMERICAN SNIPER has a real good use of the American flag and the lines are clean. Perhaps something similar with both flags, like a playing card for duality? EMPIRE OF SUN and FULL METAL JACKET are honorable mentions as they use minimal objects for maximum effect. LORD OF WAR is an incredible award winning poster that successfully conveys Nicolas Cage's profession of a weaponry merchant, and a poster with this kind of third read detail and conveyance would surely win our attention.
