bc4sci got their new poster by running a design contest:
HELP! Ocean 180 Video Challenge Needs a NEW Contest Poster
Check out bc4sci's Poster contest…
The Ocean 180 Video Challenge is sponsored by the Florida Center for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence (COSEE Florida) and is designed to encourage ocean scientists to share their discoveries and excitement for research with teachers, students, and the public. The contest challenges scientists to develop a short video that summarizes the important findings of a recent research paper and also highlights the relevance, meaning, and implications of the research to persons outside their discipline. Although the videos will be initially judged by a panel of scientists and communication experts, the final winners will be selected by a diverse, and often very critical, group of potential-future ocean scientists – 6th-8th grade students from classrooms around the world.
What's your vision?
We would like a poster that we can use to advertise the competition to teachers, scientists, and educators. The flier should have a "ocean theme" to it and incorporate the contest logo. It should highlight some of the details of the competition (http://www.ocean180.org) and encourage teachers and scientists to visit the web page to sign-up. The poster should also include the Ocean 180 logo and a link to the contest website. Poster size should be 32 inches (tall) x 24 inches (wide) Attached are copies of three logos that should be included in the design. We have also attached versions of the poster from 2014 and 2015. Please use these as samples. We are interested in a NEW design. The poster should include the following text: Ocean 180 Video Challenge Ocean Scientists: Ocean 180 challenges you to bring your latest research papers to life in a short video. $9,000 in prize money available. Teachers and Students: We invite you to participate in the Ocean 180 Video Challenge as judges. For details and contest rules visit: www.ocean180.org. Classroom Registration Deadline: December 15, 2015 Video Submission Deadline: December 10, 2015 Winners Announced: February 2016.
This is an international video competition. The posters will be distributed to classrooms all over the world and will be seen by over 50,000 students.
