Earth Tales is my father's business. He writes stories and songs for kids about nature and the outdoors. He's also a storyteller, and recently started a podcast that we need your help with!
What's your vision?
Hi there! So this cover is actually for my father. My dad is a children’s author/storyteller and as a bit of an old fart I'm helping him launch his podcast as a platform to tell his stories. The podcast is called: Critter Tales. We need your help coming up with a cool cover! To get a better idea of what he’s like here’s a short video we shot a few years back for his website: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xvm35KpU8Y The short version of the podcast: Think Magic Schoolbus mixed with Captain Planet. But without the green hair. Padre has been a children’s author and storyteller for a long time, and all of his work focused on the earth. His previous books have titles like: Ballads and Tales of the Woods, Critters, Woods and Water, and Earth Tales and Bird Song. A very politically active older hippie with a love of gardening, playing guitar, and NPR (you know the type). ---- In terms of the design itself, my pop likes simple covers that are clean, kid friendly, easy to read, and aren’t super busy. He also doesn’t like a lot of dark colors. Imagine light greens, blues, purples, yellows, and oranges. In terms of imagery feel free to incorporate outdoorsy ideas (trees, leaves, etc) or some small animals (squirrels, birds, foxes, woodchucks, badgers, that sort of thing). the design doesn’t need to have a lot of these, but considering the audience imagine something cute a kid or parent would want to click on. I’ve attached a few example artworks below that he liked. He really digs the story pirates design, so something fun and along those lines would probably play well! Thank you for your time and submission, we look forward to seeing what you got!
The target demographic is children ages 5-12, but his work definitely skews a little bit on the younger side.
