Being an African Based Company the African Component is important and also Cape Town South Africa. Our Name is derived from a old myth and the story goes as follow: The legend goes that in the 18th century, Dutch pirate Van Hunks retired to the Cape of Good Hope. One of his greatest pleasures was climbing Wind-berg now known as Devils Peak and smoking his pipe for hours on end, thinking about his life of sailing the seven seas. One day he came across a stranger dressed in a black cloak with a large hat pulled down over most of his face. The two struck up a conversation and Van Hunks boasted about how much he could smoke and the fact that he was the only man that could smoke as much as he did. The mysterious stranger challenged him to a smoking duel; Van Hunks readily accepted the challenge. The two men smoked for hours and a gigantic cloud started to form and started billowing down the slopes of Table Mountain. Van Hunks was determined to out-smoke the stranger at all costs and eventually he won the duel. He was boastful, but when he realised that the cloaked stranger was in fact the devil, Van Hunks staggered back in fright. Suddenly thunder and lightning appeared and Van Hunks was never to be seen again. When the South-Easter winds blow in Cape Town and the white cloud forms over Table Mountain, legend goes that Van Hunks and the Devil are smoking again... We have built our previous designs on the following basic principles; 1. Timeless designs - we do not date stamp our products 2. Stylish and clean designs - almost like apple in kiteboarding 3.
