Create a visual that looks like the whiteboard sketch using the info in the pdf sheet.
Context about the info:
The table shows the different companies in the Business Intelligence ecosystem, with info about how big they are, either by revenue or by how much funding they have (denoted by (F) which is a good proxy for revenue. For some companies, this data is not available, they are denoted by "No info." Some other companies dont charge for their tools, they are denoted as "Open Source".
The column headers Gather -> Cleanse -> Transform -> Store -> Analyze+Visualize+Share are the different steps in the process of getting intelligence from data.
Certain companies are point solutions. These only perform one step in the BI process eg. Talend that does only Cleanse (exception is Informatica that does Cleanse and Transform).
There are two other horizontal categories: Single Stack and Full Stack. Companies in both these categories provide all the steps, from Gather to Analyze+Visualize+Share. There is still a difference but its enough to show them in different categories.
Things to consider while creating the visual:
- Make sure it fits on one page.
- The whiteboard design is a suggestion, if you have a better idea, bring it on!
- Its important to show:
a) The name of the company along with the revenue/funding/open source. Leave it black where it says No Info.
b) The size of the company as indicated by the revenue/funding. In my whiteboard visual I indicated this by varying the size of the bubbles.
c) what steps they do, and if they do multiple like Informatica or Sisense, make it apparent.
d) whether a company is a point solution, single or full stack
e) category where relevant eg MemSQL, NuoDB and Clustrix should all be grouped under NewSQL, which itself is within Store.
f) Make Sisense the most prominent and stand out. Also add the Sisense logo to the visual a-la letterhead. Logo is attached.
- Any colorschemes should be in harmony with the colorscheme on the logo, though you dont need to make everything yellow/black.
