What's your vision?
"HEY! WHAT'S THAT SOUND? An Exploration of Sound & Science through the World of Percussion with Dave Holland" is a fun-filled, guided tour into how sound is produced, how it travels and how it becomes what we call music! The working concept is for the cover to have a fun, active, energetic feel (cartoon like perhaps) with references to sound, science & percussion (ie.soundwaves, vibrations, human ear, drums & other world percussion instruments). We also love the idea of the cover including a caricature of the artist, Dave Holland. Besides the Back Cover Shot #1 (more info below), I've also included in the files some additional pics of the Dave for your reference. ** Please refer to the Feedback Notes below for more specific info about this caricature concept! Tx! *** The back cover will include content info, artist bio info and (a cascade of) photos (3) taken from the video shoot. We feel these 3 photos are crucial to tease the content and the indicate that while the cover is 'cartoony', the DVD itself is not a cartoon. Besides a couple extra (reference) shots of Dave, I've also included a wide shot (Studio Reference) of one of the sets to give you an idea of some of the instruments covered, but there's very little in the world of percussion that we left out (wide range of drums, skins, idiophones, rattles, mallet instruments, steel drum, sound effects, etc.) We're working on getting another couple 'instrument reference' pics up as well! One fun option might be to incorporate some sound mnemonics (batman styel) into the cover: zing, pop, boom, swish, crash, etc... There is a metal bird statue, named "Beaker" that's referenced in a couple scenes. We like the idea of a caricature of him popping out of a lower corner of the cover with perhaps a quote bubble: "Lot's of Fun facts too!", or something like that. He could then pop up in the video during the 'fun facts bumps'... I've included a couple of 'reference pics' of "Beaker". FYI: we'd probably want to eliminate the book he's holding. OTHER DESIGN THOUGHTS/CONSIDERATIONS * One fun idea might be a hand drawn look (doodle style) to give it the look of having been created on a scientist's drafting table... * While the concepts covered in the video are science based, they are '_sound_ & science'. Images of test tubes, atoms, microscopes, elements, etc. need not be a part of this design. Original images of sound waves, the human ear, music notes, etc. are welcome! Files Included: Back Cover Photos (3) and Back Cover Notes doc. * Design will be single sleeve, front & back DVD cover & disc art.
FYI - Cover graphics will also be used as titles, wipes, bumps and supers for the video. This shouldn't entail more work on your part but we probably will need individual elements and all 'PS layers'.
