How to Get Google Certified and Kick Start a New Career
I am a serial online entrepreneur and this idea has been kicking around for a few years. Every friend and family member I know who has been certified as a google ad words professional gets tired of staring at the computer and ends up burning through printer cartridges printing out the google study material. Hello? How about an old fashioned book as a study guide so we can study on the couch, on the train, by the pool, highlight and underline. Books, are, after all, how all of us learned and the form factor is tried and tested (wireless, no battery issues, portable). The very smart and talented folks at Google have not released a book so I am having the entire ad words training center re written by an instructional design expert. The book is positioned for "the rest of us" and should convey an air of simplicity- the anti geek approach. You can make up the title as well as the look and feel. Then I will use the "wisdom of the crowds" by buying google ad words and testing the various titles to see which title and which treatment gets the most response.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
This is one of the key creative challenges I am trying to solve through this process. There are two general approaches to take. OPTION ONE- We can simply position the book as the "Missing Manual" or 'Unofficial Study Guide to becoming Google Ad Word Certified". This will appeal to those folks who have already decided to pursue certification.
OPTION TWO is to present the book as a career change guide. For example " JOB 2.0- Reinventing yourself and your career by becoming Google Ad word certified. Millions of people are unemployed and could buy the book, use the Google training and be in demand as a certified ad words professional. The average pay for search engine marketing professionals is $70,000, almost twice the average US Household average income. Why be an unemployed recent college graduate when, with a little post graduate google training you could be gainfully employed in a high tech online advertising profession.
The goal is to create a compelling book cover and the design that is chosen will extend to drive the website for the book. I am looking for a catchy title as well as elegant design so dont be afraid to work with different titles and subtitles. Using the "wisdom of the crowds" we will choose the best option. The winning designer will then be re-engaged to help design the companion website.
