Alexander Stegmann needed a new other design and created a contest on 99designs.
A winner was selected from 33 designs submitted by 6 freelance designers.
We are a startup company revolutionising the way businesses can issue purchase receipts. Our vision is a world where you never have another receipt in your wallet or purse again. When you make a purchase, say some jeans, and you pay with your credit card, your receipt will automatically be emailed to you, and stored in an online account so you never lose it!
The face of our company are the actual email receipts.
We aim that businesses use these email receipts as a new direct marketing channel by placing ads on them.
In addition we want to change the perceptions consumers have of receipts (paper is boring, annoying, black and white, polluting, old-fashioned) to a completely new paradigm - the email receipt.
The aim is that consumers open the receipt in their email or online account and are so excited by the design and functionality they can't resist clicking on the ad. Above all the most important information (transaction details) need to be clear, well structured and cleanly presented.
We think out of the box, and want our receipts to have personality and functionality.
There are two audiences to consider:
1 The Retailer
They will suddenly have the opportunity to use a innovative new marketing channel - email receipts. They are the person who want to use this to promote their store and goods. They will need to believe that the design will appeal to their customers and are not perceived as SPAM email. The email receipt is the face of the retailer to the customer.
2 Consumers
The people who are receiving and opening the email receipts after purchase. They want to see the receipt as convenience rather than another advertising mechanism in their inbox. We need to make sure they have all the information they were expecting from a receipt in a more convenient format.
The challenge with these designs are that they need to reach the design conscious Apple user as well as the IT illiterate middle aged house wife.
We want these receipts to be modern, funky, bold and effective. They need to help retailers sell more products and services (through the ads), while being a very clear and useful tool for consumers.
The most important bit is that we are after a design frame with colours, fonts, sample graphics, everything you would use to make it awesome. We will then convert this design into a PDF receipt.
Design an A4 sized receipt. This receipt will need to comprise of the following:
- The advertisements - These can take any form, but essentially think about banners / web ad style ads. Rember it is an email receipt not a spam email.
- Logo of the retailer
- Address/contact details of the retailer
- Transaction details
- QTY
- Price
- Date Time
- Product number
- Product Description
- Total price
- Other information
- TAX
- Cashier
- Transaction Number
- Possible transaction barcode
- One line sales pitch
- Payment method

Say you were in the middle ages, and you had to travel 200 miles on your horse but you had to be there in three hours. Everybody would say feed your horses more, and give them more rest.
One designer might say lets build a engine with four wheels - we want you to be that designer.
