Entertainment & The Arts
The product is a cover for a rhyming tale about monsters and food. The target audience is children aged 4-9.
What's your vision?
Listening to the rhyme will really help you gauge the mood/tone of the illustrations I'm looking for, so I'd highly recommend doing that first (it's only 4 mins long) - you can find the full rhyme here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8nxeWZzWu4 (turn on annotations to see the text) TYPOGRAPHY: The cover must display the text "Monsters' Menu". The text must be clearly legible, but otherwise you can be as creative as you like. I'd also like "by Eric James" on the cover in simple, plain text - if it requires me to purchase a font, please let me know ahead of time, although I'm trying to avoid any licensing issues so I'd rather have something bespoke or a font free for commercial use). I quite like the font I'm using for the YouTube video, which I believe is also open source, so that may help give you some ideas, and I also like the idea of green gradients (although something done little better than I did in the YouTube video!) ARTWORK: You can depict monsters if you wish, or you can just stick with text if you have a particularly good idea for something bespoke. If you do wish to draw monsters, I'm guessing they would be something along the lines of Monsters Inc or the monsters in the images I've uploaded (these are just to give you general ideas - please don't copy them). The reason for all this is that I am looking for cover art which I can use, initially on iTunes, for the audio book "Monsters' Menu", but there are no book illustrations yet and I would likely use it for other products related to the story so if there are limitations, please let me know ahead of time.
While the designs must not be scary (suitable for children aged 4-9) I'm keen that they shouldn't be overly 'cute' either - the rhyme should dictate the imagery used (i.e. think more along the lines of Monsters Inc than Pokemon). And for obvious reasons please try and avoid similarities with characters/styles related to well known monster books or films, such as Monsters Inc, Gruffalo etc. A few of the initial submissions have been very bright, happy illustrations, which doesn't reflect the rhyme at all, so please to listen to the audio first :) EDIT: I've had a question about size for non-vector illustrations. Ideally the bigger the better. If you need a definite size 8.5*8.5 inches with full bleed would be preferred, so I guess that maybe means 8.75*8.75?
