IllumiCare is a non-intrusive ribbon of information that hovers over the EMR. It gives you real-time, patient-specific and novel cost and iatrogenic risk data at the point of care – where it is most needed.
IllumiCare doesn’t tell you what to do or not do. We respect the clinician’s judgment, but seek to inform that judgment with actual cost data (not hospital charges) and probabilities of iatrogenic risks like hospital-acquired anemia from lab draws, cancer from medical radiation, c. difficile from antibiotic use and other similar metrics.
IllumiCare is not just a reformatting of data in the EMR. It is a compilation of clinical, financial and third-party data presented to you during the ordering process. The ribbon only appears on an individual patient screen within the EMR. If you ignore it, the ribbon automatically minimizes after 5 seconds, so as not to impede your workflow.
It is not a decision-support system which will tell you things like the next best test. The problem with next best test algorithms are that the next best thing may be to withdraw a medication, stop ordering blood draws so frequently. Anemia has an algorithm, but avoiding blood draws is never in it.
