AALFoundation got their new other book or magazine by running a design contest:
Book Layout template [7 pages] needed - innovation/transformation framework for school leaders

The goal of the Anytime Anywhere Learning Foundation (AALF) is to ensure that all children have access to unlimited opportunities to learn anytime and anywhere and that they have the tools that make this possible. To achieve this, AALF helps schools develop visionary leadership and knowledgeable, innovative educators. The book we are authoring is targeted to school and school district leaders around the world who are interested in redesigning learning and transforming their schools, a transformation made possible by providing all learners with ubiquitous access to technology. Although technology is the enabler of this transformation, and this book does include sections on devices and infrastructure, it's main ideas focus on vision, learning for 21st century children, and the building cultures that support change.
What's your vision?
Layout template for a 200+ page book (color) that provides a framework and informative guide for school leaders around the world and their leadership teams (K-12) as they implement major technology programs for students (1 to 1 programs, meaning 1 laptop/tablet for each learner) and embrace the new learning opportunities this makes possible. Tentative title: Anytime Anywhere Learners The people who use the book need to be more than passive readers - they need to be taking action and be innovative - so the layout needs to use space innovatively. The layout should feel almost interactive, as if a ‘discussion forum’ in book form (definitely not like a heavy textbook) – a book that invites adding notes and information to it. It should use graphics, fonts, photographic images (most of which need to be created or sourced), even margins to enliven the information and help create and maintain an actively engaging flow throughout the book. -------------------- The framework centers around 4 foundational elements (vision and goals, learning and teaching redesign, culture of change, implementation details) and although it describes a somewhat linear path of Actions (each chapter has a Questions and Actions section) , there are also a number of small ‘side paths’ a user may take, designed to provide more in depth information in various areas. These need to be incorporated in a way that doesn’t distract from the main path, but, instead, entice users to meander off the action path to dig deeper into various ideas. These ‘side paths’ may include: - longish essays (may be 1 - 2 pages - called "critical conversations') - short ‘snappers’ (2-3 paragraphs), - short school stories (2-3 paragraphs) - ‘expert’ quotations that need to appear prominently on the page. The book also includes planning templates and a checklist and it will eventually link to a website that will include new information, links, and community building tools. No ‘traditional’ school imagery - no old schoolhouse, classrooms with rows of chairs and a teacher in the front, grades/report cards, etc. Think more about the excitement around learning, discovery, creativity (and, somewhat, technology). We’d like you to provide the following as part of the layout: - font & text size selections for Titles, Chapters, Block Quotes, and Body Text - color palette - block quotes element design (as described above) - inset text box design (side paths’ as described above) - chapter graphics - icons (small, unique symbols to highlight different components) Book dimensions = 8" x 10" (21 cm x 26 cm) We’ll need a finished PDF file as well as an inDesign or Illustrator file for future edits.
We'd like users of the book to feel they can interact with it - almost as if it was a 'discussion forum' between themselves and the authors. The attached logo shows current color palette, but we're open to new ideas. In the chapter sample, we've played around with a few formatting ideas, but meant more for internal clarification than as style decisions or directions.
