This project is a Paperback (5 X 8) and Kindle ebook Chapbook. A Chapbook is a small collection of poems in this case about 35-40 poems. The Poems are inspired by the Japanese form of poetry called Haiku which is a short poem of 3 lines with 5 syllables on line 1, 7 syllables on line 2 and 5 syllables on line 3.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
I am looking for the following:
-Book cover and back. Paperback and Kindle ebook will be published using Amazon CreateSpace and will need to follow their specification.
-10 simple illustrations that will accompany the 35-40 poems.
-The illustrations should resemble charcoal drawings and be simple illustrations (CreateSpace interior of the book is black and white) that complement the poems. I will provide 11 poems that will be used to create the drawings. The best example I can provide that illustrates the requirement is the following: The first poem is:
A grass hut stands still
A great fool wonders about
Echoes of laughter
I have attached a drawing of a Grass Hut on a Hill. That drawing is in colour but should be re-done in charcoal. Overall the drawing is quite simple, minimalist, almost whimsical. As far as the book cover soft pastel colour like should be used as the book cover and back will be printed in color.
For the qualifying round of the contest submit one file that contains the book and back cover and 5 simple illustrations based on your choice of 5 of the 11 poems provided. However you must select the Grass Hut on the a Hill poem as part of your first submission. If your work is selected for the final round of the competition then you will need to submit the remaining 5 illustrations. In the attached file there is the 11 poems, the drawing of the Grass Hut on a Hill and a couple of sample charcoal drawings. The charcoal drawings should resemble more the simplicity of the Grass Hut on a Hill. The winning entry will need to submit the individual files for the book cover and 10 illustrations. Drawing should be original and not use stock unless they are purchased by the designer and transferred if they are selected as winner.
