egdevel got their new app design by running a design contest:
User interface (UI) design for business/messaging application
Check out egdevel's App design contest…
This app is for our customers to manage their account, read and send messages from/to our call center, set their presence (away) status on their mobile phone
- Business (clean) design - Flat - Light blue / black color scheme
The users of this app will be our customer's staffers. They will be using the app to communicate with each other (by IM/mail) and with us (we run a call center). They will also be able to set their own presence status (available/busy/meeting/vacation etc) . The screens needed are as follows: - SCREEN 1 - Inbox: Listing of messages. The listing should typically show from who the message has been sent, the date and a short preview of the message. It should also include a small icon to indicate the availability of the sender (e.g. a green bullet for available, a grey bullet for offline, a yellow bullet for temporarily unavailable and a small text to indicate the actual away reason (for temporarily unavailable, this could e.g. be "Lunch"). The inbox should also allow for a swipe for access to certain functions, much like found here: http://www.appdesignvault.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/flat-design-ui-iphone-10.png The swipe menu should have the following options: * Respond via call center (send a written reply to our call center which is forwarded by phone to the original sender of the message) * Reply (by email) * Call * Forward message to colleague (as email) * Flag message * Delete message The inbox is just one area of the messages system, so it must be possible to navigate one level up from this screen. Depending on the type of menu selected, this must either be done from within the menu (if menu type is sidebar), or by having a back button present (if menu is present at the bottom of the app). [Menu type is discussed further down in this description]. - SCREEN 2 - Message reader: Resembles an email client. Contains fields for name (with icon to pull up a recipient from an address book), as well as message body and attachments. Also, an icon to show the presence status of the sender (using e.g. colored bullets, or by means of other on screen indications (like changing the font color or background color of the name). Presence indication is only applicable for names, not for phone number and email address fields. There must be possible to have more than one sender on screen, and it must be possible to access the aforementioned functions from this screen: * Reply (by email) * Call * Forward message to colleague (as email) * Flag message * Delete message This screen must also have the ability to navigate [back] to the previous screen. - SCREEN 3: Instant message screen: A screen which shows instant message communication in the style of iMessage, again with presence indication on the participant(s) of the chat, and delivery status of the message. As with the two previous screens, this screen must also have the ability to navigate [back] to the previous screen. SCREEN 4 - Dashboard. This is in fact the starting point of the application - the very first screen that the user sees. On this screen, he should see his own name (Logged in as...), the company he's representing with an icon or text which allows to switch company (because he might represent more than one company). The screen should also show and allow to change the current presence status, as well as have an indication on pending messages. The pending messages should have a short preview (if screen size allows, not sure if this will work for iPhone 4s) of one or two pending messages (indicates who the message is from, timestamp and a short snipplet of the text in the message). It should also be possible to go directly to the message by clicking on the preview, or to the inbox by clicking somewhere else on this screen. SCREEN 5: List of users This is a contact list with presence indication. Should contain a name, presence and icons that can be clicked to call, message or view more information on this contact. These actions can be illustrated either by using icons directly or by utilizing swipe functionality as suggested for the inbox - this can be the choice of you as the designer, whatever gives the best combination of user friendliness and neat design. In addition to this, it is important to keep in mind that the UI must have a good looking, functioning menu. This is not a screen in itself, as it is to be accessible from all parts of the system. The menu needs to have the following items present: - Dashboard - Messages - Contacts - Settings I am not taking any preference over having a menu bar at the bottom of the app (like e.g. the one found here: http://veryniceindustries.com/sites/default/files/slider_images/vav1.jpg), or to use a sidebar menu (e.g. like this: http://www.appdesignvault.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/flat-design-ui-iphone-8.png), but it is important that it it easily accessible, and the messages link should also have a counter present so that unread message indication can be implemented. App design must be compatible with iPhone 4s and iPhone 5.
