silvermana got their new app design by running a design contest:
UI facelift for eClicker, an iOS app
Check out silvermana's App design contest…
The app allows a presenter (a teacher, lecturer, etc.) to poll the audience. Another name for it is an "audience response system". The app is live on the App Store today, and I can give out a promo code by request so you can download it for free and check it out. There are two parts to the eClicker system: the Presenter app and the Audience app. This contest covers the Presenter app, but both apps have a similar UI.
This design contest is for redesigning the UI only (how it looks- icons, button, colors, etc.) of an existing app. I'm still happy with the UX (how it functions- layout, ordering, etc.), but the UI is circa iOS 5 so it looks dated. I'm looking to update the UI to reflect the design changes that came with iOS 7/8. More info on that is available in Apple's human interface guidelines: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/MobileHIG/index.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40006556-CH66-SW1 Again, do not change the layout of the provided comps. I'm just looking to update the aesthetics, and would like a total update to all icons, colors, fonts, etc. For the App Icon you can make changes beyond just the color, but I want it to look like a natural evolution of the same logo. The updated icon should contain similar elements to the original. The app relies heavily on text so it should very readable. My customers have complained that the current color scheme makes some text hard to read. Most of my customers are middle and high school teachers (and their students), but the app has users in other industries as well. I want the new look to be a little less influenced by the "grade school look". Something a bit more modern, sleek, and universal would be nice.
This is best answered by the demo video found here: https://eclicker.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/1809340-demo-video The Presenter app has 4 sections/tabs: Audience - where the presenter can see whose connected Questions - where the presenter enters questions for polling Images - a library of images used in questions Sessions - all polling results for later viewing and export In each section the app uses a drill-down panels UX. I've attached the 3 screens of work: the Audience tab, the Questions tab, and the app icon. I can finish the rest of the app myself since the rest of the UI elements are the same. I also attached a couple sprite sheets I used to breakout assets for development (maybe these will be easier for your designing/editing process).
What to avoid
Do not change the layout of the screens. I'm just looking to give the app a facelift by updating all icons, colors, fonts, etc. Readability of text is very important.
