Greg7345441294 got their new app design by running a design contest:

Food & Drink
The app is used for people to rate and track the whiskey they drink. They are awarded badges based on certain accomplishments they unlock (rating 10 rye whiskeys for example.) The app also has a social element - you can add your friends to the app and see what they're drinking. The app already exists, please download it here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ratewhiskey/id878704204?ls=1&mt=8 It's pretty rough at the moment and only designed by the developer, so we're going to take a shot a making it pretty when we do the next bug fix/release.
Currently the app is a little clunky and mainly designed by a non-designer. The colors are difficult to work with (yellow and brown to reference whiskey) but we're open for change. We are thinking of some flat design, but once again are open. Finally, the big change we would like to make is to move to a side menu - the bottom menu takes up too much real estate.
I've included the initial scope that we drew up (quick and dirty). Please read through this. Currently, the user has to create an account or log in first before using the application. We'd like that to change. We want it to to now only ask you to create an account if you want to "Check-In" (rate) a whiskey - or add a friend etc. The app already exists, please download it here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ratewhiskey/id878704204?ls=1&mt=8 The pages we'd be most interested in would be: - Splash page - Signup Page - Menu design - Your whiskeys (things you’ve rated in the past) - Whiskey detail page
What to avoid
This is going to be a cross-platform app... so avoid overly iOS metaphors. However, we're launching only on iOS at the moment.

Greg7345441294 collaborated with designers to refine their ideas
When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.

Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
