Medical & Pharmaceutical
At NOVAFON (https://novafon.com/), we produce medical devices aiming to relieve pain, relax muscles and, thereby, improve quality of life. Our customers are self users, therapists, athletes & animal lovers. To improve the overall experience with NOVAFON we’re planning to release a NOVAFON App for iOS and Android. The app should help getting started with the device, find the right applications for each person and connect and control upcoming devices via Bluetooth. In upcoming versions motivation via gamification aspects could be an idea as well.
We usually have a pretty minimalistic, Apple like look & feel. Our products are medical devices and can be found in the upper price and quality range. The app has to match that premium feeling. You can also have a look on our website for more details about the product and our look and feel. It should be easy to use and work like many other fitness and health apps but it should feel like part of the NOVAFON family and be somehow different than others. We attached our application books as PDF, maybe there are some elements that can be used. Our approach can be found somewhere in between fitness, mental health and health apps. It should be motivational and emotional but also communicate our professional medical device background. Many of our customers are female.
NOVAFON App – Your companion for pain relief, wellness and animal treatments with our products.
The NOVAFON app should be a companion to our hardware products. They should explain how to use the product, show what applications are possible, give some routines the user can do every day and also connect to upcoming devices via Bluetooth. For this design challenge we would like to focus on 3 major parts. The first one would be the overview page. The overview page is a list of all possible applications, nicely presented and categorized, so that the user finds what he wants quickly. There are 5 main categories: Pain relief, Sport / Regeneration, Relaxation, Horse treatments and Pet treatments. Some subcategories might follow in future. For every category there are multiple applications. An application can be a single video which explains how to use the product and do some fitness activities and it can also be a combination of animated images. They also explain how to use the product. The overview page should be easy to use and work like many other fitness and health apps but it should feel like part of the NOVAFON family and be somehow different than others. The second one would be the detail page of a single application. Probably with the help of an image, a title, a short description, some meta information like length, position (sitting, standing, on a yoga mat), recommended attachments. Also some more detailed information about the current application with text and included activities. The third one would be a tab to communicate with a connected NOVAFON Bluetooth device. It would be possible to start/stop the device, set the frequency between 0 and 100Hz, set the intensity and set a timer how long the device should run. You could also see some meta information about the device like battery level or serial number. You could also connect to another device or setup the default frequency and intensity. But this would be probably something for a sub-menu/dialog. It would be also possible that an application would start the device via Bluetooth and set it to the right settings for this application. Not sure if that would be something relevant for this screen, probably not. ---- Additional information: Let's assume we have a customer who bought the product. When he unpacks the product there is a QR code to download the app. Now he opens the app and while onboarding he get's asked what was the intention to use the product for. Or what is the user in general interested in. Probably he has to name their top3 categories. Let's assume he says pain relief and relaxation. In the app we would react on the input and show these categories with more importance than others. We can still show the other categories to show what is possible with the product but with reduced importance. So usually the user has something specific use case in mind when he buys our product. We would like to help with this use case but also show the other possibilities with the device.
What to avoid
The app should be emotional and special but not too playful or cheesy. It should not just look like a copycat of all existing other apps. We will not have too many content at the beginning so the structure should probably be pretty simple at the beginning, no need for many search and filter options. Also not too many navigation levels. We also think the tab bar at the footer would be better than a burger menu. We would love to see the final designs in tools like Figma, Adobe XD or similar. Other tools might be also ok, but the preferred way is to have it in such design and prototyping tools. But if you have animated stuff in After Effects or something, this would be also fine. :) We're more interested in the design idea in general.
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. App design starts at $599.
