eldriev-coupon got their new app design by running a design contest:
iPhone Coupon App from Plain to Stunning
Check out eldriev-coupon's App design contest…
The app allows customers to view email, to see coupons and to redeem coupons on their mobile device.
We have a defined logo and brand identity guidelines that we would to apply to our mobile app (document attached NOTE: The RGB values in the document do not correspond with the colours properly. Please use the colour and ignore the RGB values). Would like to keep our brand in mind, without overwhelming the user or cluttering the UI. We are looking for a clean, flat design that focuses the user on their task, but we want it to look slick, elegant and beautiful. Since we are providing an email viewer, similar to regular email, we need the user to know that they are in our app when viewing email. We are using font awesome icons in our associated web application, but the icons I've managed to generate do not look uniform in weight. Would like clean uniform icons. We plan to use the Apple preferred fonts where appropriate to allow the user to resize screens if necessary. Would like to know which font size to use for each text element (i.e.: body, headline, subhead, caption1 etc.) Would also like guidance as to sizing of icons, spacing between icons and text items, the best use font colour and weight to make certain text stand out. Would like a colour palette to use for styling things other than the logo i.e. red for a Favourite Heart icon. We do not control the images used when displaying coupons, so the layout for the coupon needs to allow for any photo to be used. Although, we will be able to restrict the image dimensions (currently 1600 x 900). Samples of the current layout are provided, indicating what information needs to appear in each coupon. No coding is required as the app is already complete and just needs to be made more attractive.
This iPhone app uses a tab bar design with 4 tabs. Sign in to the app with the sign in screen. (The sign in screen and the home screen have room for branding and a unique look.) There will be a home screen with three choices that bring the user to one of the specified tabs. . Tab 1 - Users select a mailbox from a list screen and a list of emails opens. The user then taps on a row and the emails displays on a list screen. Looks and functions very much like the Apple Mail app. Tab 2 - A list of coupon types opens, a row is selected, opening up the list of Coupons which we would like to display in an attractive scrolling list. The user taps on a coupon and the detail screen for that coupon opens. The detail screen can have quite a few fields and can scroll down quite a bit, so it does need to be in it's own screen. The user can now decide to tap Buy and another screen opens to confirm the purchase. What to avoid
Follow the guidelines in the Brand Identity Guide for using the logo. NOTE: The RGB values in the document do not correspond with the colours properly. Please use the colour and ignore the RGB values. Please do not overlay text on the Image, as we do not know in advance what the images will be.

And then… they selected a winner!
I've worked with designers and developers for the past 15 years, including managing teams of in-house designers and working with contractors. I've had the pleasure of working with some great people but I have to say Sasha is by far the most talented, dedicated designer I've ever worked with. He is a huge talent. He has a great sense of balancing the business objective with the final design to carry the message. He truly cares about what the outcome is. He's self-motivated. If he doesn't know something, he'll learn it on his own, and he needs very little direction. He nails the concept on the first try nearly every project we work on. Oh, and he also happens to be a grateful, kind human being and easy to work with. I can't say enough. I will continue to work with Sasha as long as he's available! (Some day he'll be famous and I'll have to find a backup.)
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
