AALP got their new app design by running a design contest:
Fresh design needed for letter sounds app
Check out AALP's App design contest…
This app allows users of our reading and spelling curriculum to hear the sounds of the letters.
We are looking for a clean look that has a timeless appearance and is easy to use. Our current app design was based on an even older CD-ROM version of the program. We are not tied to the previous design colors or elements and would like to update the app design for 2020. The only thing that can not change is the font used on the tiles and the background color assigned to those tiles (meaning, "m" will still need a blue background, "o" will need a red background, etc).
This is a fairly simple app that displays the letter tiles so that a user can tap on one and hear the sound it makes. We also have a paid app available that we want to gently promote to users in this app. In that other app users can move the tiles to build words. We are looking for ideas of how to let customers know about this other app. On tablets all of the tiles can be displayed on a single page. On phones the tiles can be divided between 2 pages.
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. App design starts at $599.

And then… they selected a winner!
Thank you for coming up with such a wonderful settings menu customized for our app. Little things like that is going to make this app great for the user!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
