Dj32240 got their new app design by running a design contest:
Design a Food and Restaurant inspired mobile app! ~Cucina

Food & Drink
The app lists all deals at restaurants in their immediate vicinity while they are happening. Followed by a list of all deals that restaurants in the area offer, even when they are not happening. Users may then post pictures of their deal to facebook, twitter, or instagram for an additional discount
Maroon/white/cream are the main colors for the app. I want it to be very simple and easy to follow Attached are screen shots of my current app. My current app is a bare bones version but functions exactly how I want my new app to but with less features.
The initial login screen will request a first name, last name, and email address. After this screen you will be taken to the Restaurant Tab of the app where all the restaurants and their active respective deals will be listed in bubbles (Active means the deal is on monday from 9am-12pm and you are looking at the app within that time frame). When the user scrolls down a separate section will list all the restaurants that have deals on the app but are not active (ie: the deal is from 3pm-6pm but you are using the app at 8pm) This is the most important screen. When the user clicks on the restaurant they will go to a deal screen which will clearly list the details of the deal (ie: 25% Off Monday-Friday 2-6pm OR $6 salads M, T, W, Th from 3-6pm) This screen must be eye catching and easy to follow. The customer must be able to decipher the details of the deal without much thought. On this screen there will be two buttons .. One button will allow you to redeem the deal. when this button is pushed a QR code scanner will come up where the user will scan a code at the restaurant to redeem. Following the redemption the user will be prompted to post their use of the deal to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram for an additional discount. Upon accepting or denying the prompt they will see a confirmation screen saying they redeemed the deal and they just tap a button to go back to the home screen. The other option from the deal screen is to click "about restaurant" where the user will be delivered to a yelp like profile of the restaurant. complete with basic information and pictures, possibly reviews as well. The other three tabs on the app will be an account tab (where the user can read the about us, the directions on how to use it, etc.) and a Featured deal page where special deals will be featured, and a map tab which will show a map of your area with little icons with all our restaurants around it. I am also considering a map tab as well as in the current app. This will just show a map with all the restaurant locations on it that customers can click to access the deal page.
What to avoid
not too much plain text, everything should be easy to follow and organized The app is currently on the Apple app store it is called Cucina, I have included screen shots from the beta version of the app that I designed. The functionality will be the same for the new app plus a few features, but the design should be much more eye catching.
