FlowTime Purpose & Overview ************************************* The overriding purpose and goal of the FlowTime system is to produce better musicians. Not necessarily professional level musicians, but rather to promote development to the fullness of an individual’s abilities. Improving ability requires: 1. Access to quality teaching material and resources 2. Dedicated regular practice 3. Effective deliberate practice 4. More (and more) performance practice Initially FlowTime will not focus heavily on the teaching aspect of the learning journey. There are many teachers, courses, apps and systems providing these services and resources. We will rather focus on points 2-4. The FlowTime system is designed to improve music learning progress through motivational goal setting, progress visualisation, community engagement and social interaction, regular recording and sharing of performance progress. People fail to practice effectively or practice enough due in no small part to lack of motivation. Music learning is for the most part a solo pursuit, and anything that can and does improve motivation resulting in more practice and better learning outcomes is of value. The app promotes consistent deliberate practice along with increased levels of performance practice to create better musicians. It introduces new ways of collaborating, communicating, and competing with fellow music students, sharing the learning journey and building a sense of community of purpose. Through improved practice effectiveness and regular performance practice, performance anxiety will diminish allowing music students to achieve a state of flow more regularly during performance. Like personal fitness apps (e.g. Strava), FlowTime lets you track and record your progress towards goals, optionally sharing your progress with friends or other members of the musical community as you progress. As personal fitness apps support different types of exercise, FlowTime supports the multifaceted musician who may belong to multiple musical groups and play more than one instrument. The system has a broad target age demographic. It will appeal most to amateur musicians of varying abilities, aged from late teens to roughly sixty. Essentially it appeals to any individual or group wanting to improve motivation through recording musical development progress and sharing their musical activity to an interested group of friends.
I'd like the designer to use the Strava app as a basis for style. I have also attached a detailed wireframe which should be used as a functional guide, but not as a design guide.
I would like designers to take the detailed wireframe attached and use it as a guide to design the home screen of my app. I intend to use this as a template for future design, and hopefully work further with the winning designer to design the remainder of the app. I have only included the home screen wireframe, although I have detailed designs for the remainder of the app. In addition to the wireframe I have also attached the app logo pack in case the colours are a useful guide in the design process although I don’t expect the full logo to be displayed on the home screen. The attached wireframe shows in great detail the functionality and information I want reflected on the design, but the actual design can change drastically and designers should not feel constrained by what I have attached. By this I mean the colours, fonts, icons, information positioning, sizing can all be altered as a designer sees fit. I would also welcome some ideas around useful icons for the main menu located at the bottom of the screen, and the various icons shown in the activity feed. I’m hoping some dynamic designer will be able to take my design and make it look appealing and usable, using all the functional and content I’ve included. I expect there will be lots of questions, I will attempt to answer them speedily and look forward to finding a designer I can work with for quite some time! I would ideally like the final files in Sketch (or Photoshop). Thank you. Peter
What to avoid
I've ticked iPhone above, but ultimately the app will be deployed on iPhone and Android. I believe this means we should avoid using very many iPhone specific designs or controls.

And then… they selected a winner!
Bryan was truly excellent all round.
The designs were top class, and the speed with which he produced the large amount of work was extremely impressive. He worked extremely hard to build me a top class prototype and I couldn't be happier with the outcome.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
