howardco got their new app design by running a design contest:
Create an cool, fluid, engaging lighting control app for OnSwitch Lighting Experiences.
Check out howardco's App design contest…
Our app controls smart LED light bulbs like Philips Hue and Lifx and applies animated effects, accent colors and standard white lighting to the bulbs. It allows the consumer to buy new "Lighting Experience" packs to get the app to do more cool things. We want it to appeal to women and men equally. So, it should go way beyond feeling like a remote control for your smart-lighting -- more ethereal and magical -- a lighting environment creator. It should feel as trustworthy as a light switch while still being open ended with the possibility of it doing new cool things all the time.
We want it to feel fluid and minimal. It should be sophisticated and stylish like an issue of Dwell magazine, yet still playful and magical. We assume the interface overall tone is probably less-bright to match the focus on lighting experiences -- the way that photo editing software keeps the UX visually subdued. That said, we are fully open to other visual interpretations of the app's core purpose.
OnSwitch ::: Lighting Experiences
The screens required and the main workflows are described in a detailed interaction design document we have provided. We are looking for a great designer to interpret the interaction document and breathe life into the experience. We would like a PSD and any motion studies that defines a visual system for all the screens that we can use to generate further app capabilities later.
What to avoid
Anything tacky or tasteless. :-) This is an "interior design" experience for the app's user.
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. App design starts at $599.
