Excellent person, very professional, he had the exact vision of what we were searching for.

Amazing designer woes exceptional work.
- Lena Kay
Lena was wonderful to work with. She came up with several designs and was receptive and responsive to (and very patient with!) all of my input about changes. Lena has a great eye and the design we settled on is perfect for my book cover! Simple, yet bold and eye catching. She was also pleasant and positive in all of our exchanges in general. I highly recommend her!

We are an academic molecular biology research laboratory. We are publishing a report in the scientific journal Cell and would like to submit a cover design for the issue of the journal that will feature our work. The cover is supposed to represent the main findings we are presenting in our report. The target audience is biology researchers, but the cover design is supposed to be conceptual and creative, rather than overly-technical.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
We would like a "creative" representation of a chemical modification to the structure of DNA and the importance of this modification in the passing biological information from parents to offspring. We are reporting that this particular chemical modification to DNA contains biological information that adds to the information already carried in the DNA sequence. We would like the illustration to suggest that this extra information carried by the DNA modification can be transmitted from one generation to the next in worms (our study has used worms called Caenorhabditis elegans as a model organism). The general sub-field of molecular biology to which our findings are most relevant is called "epigenetics." A wikipedia-level understanding of epigenetics would be helpful before starting designs. The DNA modification we are reporting is called 6-methyladenine, or 6mA for short. This refers to a "methyl" chemical group attached at a particular position (the #6 nitrogen) to the Adenine base of DNA. Usually DNA does not have this chemical modification, so our finding of this form of DNA (and the implications of the information it carries) is what we are reporting in our study. For this design, the more creative the better! We welcome any ways in which this could be made "abstract." We envision that, one way or another, the structure of DNA will be shown and also probably somewhere a few generations of worms will be shown...beyond this we have no particular design in mind and are excited to work with a promising creative design or idea.
Since this material is scientific, please contact me to consult about the project design - while we want it to be creative, it does have to be scientifically accurate, and we can help explain any scientific jargon in lay terms. Also, please note that, if selected by Cell to be used as a cover, this work will be published and Cell may have rights to use the image thereafter (I am not sure about the details on this part, please follow up about this if this is a concern).
