Puffin
I own a small software development company specializing in data analysis and reporting for the energy industry. Our clients are mid-sized companies like devon.com, cheniere.com, chk.com, nobleenergyinc.com and enervest.net.
Orange, Yellow, Black and White - Re: North American Puffin
Though my clients are corporations, usually accountants and engineers are the users, and they are a serious sort, I would like to find a balance between serious and creative. Too serious and they would miss the fact that we provide very creative solutions that make work easier and save time, too creative (playful) and they don't take you seriously. Choosing Puffin as a company name and the Puffin as a mascot is already a little playful so the idea is to retain some of that while implying we are serious developers creating corporate enterprise class software.
General notes about us:
Our main focus is on reporting and analysis with an intense focus on making people's jobs in the energy industry easier. Analysis is looking at all the data behind the report and figuring out the important bits and doing the grunt work to summarize and arrange it into something useful. Reporting is just presentation but for us it is presentation on steroids, lots of interaction, cool interactive graphs, details shown in pop-up displays, sources identified, live connections to external spreadsheets and scanned documents. I hope you get the idea, it's not your mothers bank statement.
So what if your job is to manage the data related to thousands of wells? There are all sorts of details; who owns the land, how much of the proceeds do they get? How much oil or gas did the well produce in the last month and what was it worth? Is that more or less than expected? The folks managing all of this usually have to rely on poorly written large "enterprise" data systems that have really terrible interfaces and awful reporting. Without help their jobs bite, really, its sad, you don't want to be them.
We found a niche helping them and its fun. We are really, really good at taking data from the enterprise systems, from spreadsheets and pdfs emailed to these folks and crunching them into interactive reports that make them smile, really big smiles and that just makes our day! That's what we are all about, really big smiles and we like Puffins.
Now about the web site:
I would like the five pages to be; home, what we do, how we do it, our work and contact us.
Home - should reflect the central message that we deliver powerful easy to use, time saving software that helps the clients do more in less time. Maybe a slogan like "more in less time" or "less energy, more productivity" (I'm open to suggestions) in a central position below the logo like catalytic-design's site.
What We Do - I kind of covered this above but to put it in more "corporate-eze": We know the energy industry, we know what each department in an energy company is doing so we can deliver solutions that meet the needs of the front-line employees in a way that maximizes their productivity. We excel at combining and analyzing information from disparate data sources; we routinely combine multiple database sources with information gleaned from spreadsheets and pdf documents into one well formatted interactive presentation.
How We Do It - Using the right mix of Microsoft .Net technology and Oracle products our solutions are fast, responsive and extremely powerful. Our powerful development tool set allow us to take enterprise databases, spreadsheets and Adobe documents all in stride while our depth of knowledge in the energy industry allows us to get down to what is needed quickly and to present results in a way that our customers love.
Our Work - I'll get customer recommendations for this page. Something along the line of these two (actual cases, you should have seen Carol's smile, Eric doesn't smile much, but he was happy).
Carol - "We had all but given up reconciling our oil run tickets to the hauler statements, there were just too many different spreadsheet statements from haulers to have time within each month to match the spreadsheet data to the tickets entered in the field. Each spreadsheet had a different format and once we had gotten used to one format the hauler would change the spreadsheet or we'd get a new company added. The field tickets were scanned into PDF files that had to be manually searched, it took forever to verify entries. Puffin fixed all that. Their application handles all the differently formatted spreadsheets automatically, searches the PDF files for us and matches all that data against our enterprise system of record. What was an almost overwhelming amount of work for a person to complete in a month has been turned into a task we can complete in a couple of days."
Eric - "Puffin produced our complex off-shore daily report at a fraction of other companies cost and they delivered quickly. Their depth of knowledge of our industry was evident from the beginning as we did not have to waste time explaining things like the difference between wet and dry gas and what condensate was. Just as important was their knowledge of our enterprise database systems, we just told them what we needed and they knew where to find it."
Contact Us - just the usual email form that serves double duty as a "request a quote" request.
