Cynthia Smith MD
Heart Centered Healing
Dr Cynthia Smith is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and in Classical Chinese medicine. She has 22 years of experience providing treatment and education to children and adults to facilitate healing. She integrates Classical Chinese medicine treatments with exercise and diet prescriptions for each patient. The patient is examined as a whole with appropriate attention to mind, body, spirit and environment. As we are always in interaction with our environment, Dr Smith had built her clinic to facilitate healing through healthy exchange with the environment.
The root of Classical Chinese medicine is qi gong. The clinic provides qi gong massage as well as group and individual qi gong training. Acupuncture is another branch of Chinese Medicine and recognized by both the World Health Organization and The National Institute of Health for many conditions. This is also used for treatment in the clinic. With the added use of qi gong, less needles are used. Dr. Smith is also trained in the use of various physical modalities, all of which are used as indicated for her patients.
Qi gong is an art and skill acquired through knowledge and practice that strengthens health, eliminates illness and prolongs life. Qi refers to the vital force unique to each person. Gong means to promote, enrich and act upon. A qi gong master allows you to feel your own qi during qi gong practice or while undergoing treatments. High level masters of qi gong can treat people with their own qi directly or from a distance.
In the practice of qi gong we speak of the internal qi to distinguish it from the qi of the universe or "breath of nature". The universe is a living organism. Qi permeates all life.
There are three types of qi gong to train the mind, breath and body.
