JoshM820 got their new logo & hosted website by running a design contest:
Create a Logo/Website for Consulting Startup. Unique style desired of Professional+Solid/Tangible

See Name notes above. There are 3 variations of this I'd like to see.
Business & Consulting
We provide incentive compensation consulting and services to clients. Our clients are businesses of any size, however we will differentiate from competitors by targeting small and midsize companies that have so far been ignored. We design and manage bonus and commission plans for clients.
Other color requirements
I'm leaning towards dark reds and grey, charcoal or silver colors. I'm leaning against blue, which I think is overdone in the consulting field. Because our "product" is not tangible, I think we'd be differentiated by our design being more tangible, such as wood/metal textures in the logo and website. Something that looks/feels solid, even though our product is not tangible like that.
Going along with the "Lab" term in the title, I think a chemistry beaker like the attached file. But I am not married to this idea and would be open to other suggestions. Another idea I have is something incorporating an arrow, which goes along with the OnTarget part of the name. I have uploaded an image of an arrow since I'm referring to an actual arrow from a bow and arrow, and not just a pointing arrow. I am DEFINITELY open to seeing other ideas outside of just the beaker and arrow ideas though. I want the logo and website to have a combination of both professional (the way most consulting and law firm designs usually are), and tangible/concrete/solid, which I think is more unique in this area. By tangible/concrete I mean the feeling that the logo/website colors are more solid, such as wood/metal textures. I would like the logo to be a little more "fun" than the typical 100% professional look of most consulting logos, but not too far since it is still a type of consulting. For the winning designer, I will likely want to work with them on a 1-to-1 project for the business card design.
The color or texture idea I have is mentioned above regarding logos as well. I want the website to have a combination of both professional (the way most consulting and law firm designs usually are), and tangible/concrete/solid, which I think is more unique in this area. By tangible/concrete I mean the feeling that the website colors or textures are more solid, such as wood/metal textures. The combination of that while still being professional is what I'd like. And lastly, though I'm not sure how this could come through with the other feels, but "young". I am younger than my competitors. I'm okay with that coming through in the design. One specific imagery thought is something that represents an incentive. A cheesy idea would be a carrot being held in front of a donkey or horse. But a classier image for this concept could be horses racing towards a finish line. Some photo that captures this idea of performing an act to get a reward (like a seal getting a fish after doing a trick at SeaWorld) might be powerful. I'm open to ideas on this though, like everything else.
It all began with a design brief.
A quick, interactive guide helped them understand their design style and captured exactly what they needed in their logo & hosted website.
Designers across the globe delivered design magic.
JoshM820 collaborated with designers to refine their ideas
When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.
99designs has great collaboration tools so you can pinpoint and capture your ideas
And then… they selected a winner!
Had a great experience working with the designer. The outcome was great, and in the process there was very good and timely support.
I will look forward to do more projects for the brand with the designer.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
