How prep720 started their logo design journey
Who are you known as?
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
The company, called Prep 720, is a tutoring business that provides ACT and SAT prep classes for high school students. The company works solely with high school students, so we want to avoid anything that looks too elementary. While we teach high school students, our primary customers are the parents of the students! So we want a logo that not only is engaging to students but also creates a sense of trust to parents.
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
To give us an idea of the overall feeling of your brand, let us know which styles you lean towards
This is modern, it looks like a startup I'd see from San Francisco (which is a good thing). If I were comparing this company to another company, this logo would make me feel as though the company is younger, modern, and cutting edge. I could see this logo on a variety of handouts I will give to parents and school teachers!
I like the cartoon illustration! The font is not my favorite, though.
This logo has a lot of what I really want -- it looks young and modern, but it still conveys a sense of "official"-ness. It doesn't look cheesy, and I could see it as a letterhead on many papers and tests I give out.
This logo conveys a sense of authority to me. It looks like the company has been around for a while, and almost reminds me of a law firm or something very "trust worthy." However, this likely would scare off high school students as it is almost TOO official looking.
Simple, straightforward, and I actually like the "sketched" look of the illustration.
I love the blue against the pure black.
I like the modern look of this, and the fact there is a bit of a digital twist here as well. The fading, pixelated right half of the bird is cool!
I like the simplicity here. It's simple, and looks very "official", but isn't TOO boring and industrial looking. The one critique I have of this is that the actual "crown" here is way too boring .
The name "Prep 720" is taken from the fictional company created in Parks and Recreation (a TV show), where the founder of the company "will go around the world twice for his clients". So, the name "Prep 720" is a bit a of funny nod to that fun TV show! Something like "we'll go around the world twice for our students!" would be a pleasant tagline. Again, we want to communicate a feeling of trust to parents, and not be so formal that we scare off students. We want to be hip and modern, not "industrial" like many tutoring companies out there.
Finally, we want the logo to be modern and standout from other tutoring companies. If you look at our competitors, people like Kaplan and Princeton Review, their logos are WAY TOO BORING. It's basically just text! And feels very dated. They have crappy websites, boring teachers, and dated curriculum. I want a logo that is similar to a Sillicon Valley startup look -- yes, I know that might be overdone but I think it would stand out among all the other boring tutoring companies.
