I launched Curly-Hair-Styles-Magazine.com nearly six years ago as a sole proprietor with very little knowledge of the web and no knowledge at all of effective design.
In spite of its ordinary looks the site has built a substantial following in countries all over the world, and I want to give it an attractive, fun, professional look and feel.
My goal in launching the site was to achieve financial freedom for myself. I'm not there yet but I'm plugging away at it!
Women looking for ideas, advice, products and information about hair styles and hair care, especially but not exclusively women with naturally curly hair.
The site's fundamental idea is validation, acceptance and celebration of naturally curly hair. My audience consists to a large degree of women and girls who have struggled their whole lives with their natural hair texture - curly, wavy, frizzy, unmanageable, poofy, big, wild and frustrating hair - in a world that worships straight, sleek, silky locks.
Curly-haired women are tormented, teased and ridiculed for their appearance by straight-haired friends, acquaintances and strangers. Their hair is a huge part of their identity, and they have a lot of emotion invested in it.
They are very keen and often desperate to resolve the hair-related issues that have plagued their lives. They want acceptance for who they are, which very much includes their hair, and they want to know how to make their natural hair texture look good - glamorous, sexy, gorgeous.
I need a logo that brands Curly-Hair-Styles-Magazine.com and tells my target audience that this is a website created specifically for them.
The logo should incorporate the full website name, ie:
You have total creative freedom, but the design must appeal to intelligent, articulate women and it must signal that this is about curly hair. Please feel free to use humour - I want the site brand to be fun as well as professional.
The logo needs to work as:
the site brand within a header image 960 wide x 160 pixels high
the site brand on business cards and other stationery.
