Fickle City got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Storytelling logo for a publisher and digital platform exploring the lived experience of cities
Check out Fickle City's Logo design contest…
Fickle City is an independent non-fiction publishing house and digital platform (blog, podcast, video) that explores the lived experience of urban life. Through the creative and engaging exploration of these experiences and narratives, Fickle City aspires to tell the stories of city dwellers from a broad spectrum of voices, from residents and community leaders to policy makers and academics. In doing so, Fickle City hopes to bring the stories of our cities to life - inspiring, enlightening, provoking and transforming. The audience ranges from the general public interested in the subject through to practitioners and academics engaged in the sector.
It would be useful to see a couple variants on the logo, depending on use. For example, in a publication the full logo would feature on the back or inside cover, with a modified simpler version on the spine (for example, lacking the words). In broad terms, the themes are “cities, people and emotions/attachments” and the logo should at least give a sense of this. While this could be a skyline type logo, I would also be keen to see other more nuanced or creative designs - it doesn’t need to be as literal as a skyline but should still be clear it relates in some ways to cities/urban life. I would however want to steer clear of cartoonish designs. While I have indicated black and white colour palette, I am open to other ideas such as a splash of colour or even a different colour palette. However, it should be just a couple colours, as I would not want a multitude of colours in the logo. Although the subject matter can at times be serious, it also attempts to be publicly accessible, engaging and current. Nothing “stuffy” or taking itself too seriously. Ideally the logo would be as at home on a book as it is a website, instagram, poster or t-shirt.
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. Logo design starts at $299.

Great design with a clear understanding of brief and broader concept. Was responsive to feedback and happy to provide revisions and options. Would definitely work with Micheal again.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
