If you look at our website, http://sterlingandstone.net, you should get an idea for what we're trying to achieve visually. Our books run the gamut from dark horror to sci-fi to fantasy to humor to westerns with unicorns to children's books.
The logo should not be silly, scary, or whimsical, though we may write stories with those elements. I'm thinking of something with more simple typography, perhaps even classic looking, not lots of flourish (though some flourish would be considered). Think timeless, strong, and perhaps even a bit of mystery.
I like both thin typefaces and bold thick lettering, perhaps even something that looks like it's from a century ago mixed with modern. We'd probably not go with cursive or handwritten typefaces, though we'd not rule them out entirely with the right design.
