TheMattBerry got their new logo design by running a design contest:
We sell speciality coffee drinks, but we love to create community.

Food & Drink
We provide high-quality, hand-crafted specialty coffee drinks. There are two Caribou Coffee stores in town, so that's our competition. But we are different because of (a) our small-batch, high-quality coffee and (b) the emphasis we place on building community in our town. We are all about creating a welcoming, "homey" atmosphere where you can connect with friends, do homework, or have a business meeting. Our goal is to become the "living room" of the neighborhood. Our culture is shaped by quality/excellence, humility, compassion, exceptional customer service, and a LOVE for creativity/innovation (hence the "ember" in our name). We want to be the neighborhood coffee shop where artists display their art, musicians play their music, and people just love to be there. It's THEIR coffee shop. We are in a semi-rural community (Big Lake, MN) with a mixture of working professionals/freelancers, construction workers, stay-at-home moms, and high-school students. Everyone loves coffee, yes, but EVERYONE needs community. We'd like the design to be iconic and intuitive—nothing overly abstract. People who drive down the street need to see our sign and know exactly what it says or means. We also plan to get the design laser-cut into a sheet of metal and have that mounted to our building. For that reason, the design shouldn't require a lot of colors to be understood. Things to INCLUDE: - Ember imagery (Google "ember logo" for ideas) - Prefer imagery of a simple ember (delicate, bright, movement) - Prefer imagery of ember that is asymmetrical - Prefer good and strong lettering for "Ember Coffee Co." - Prefer a color palette with Pantone 17-1462 (Flame) and Black + White Things to AVOID: - Coffee bean imagery - Coffee mug/cup imagery - Animal imagery - Lightning bolt imagery - Complex ideas that aren't easy to see from far away
Please check back for updates. I am including a list of DOs and DON'Ts in the brief. I will add to it as more designs are submitted.
