M²OLIE is a research campus subsidized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and aims on treating a specific kind of cancer patients (with oligometastases; target group) within a closed loop process covered by a so called medical “One-Stop-Shop”. In this One-Stop-Shop technologies and medical procedures are developed to provide the steps: diagnosis, analysis, preparation and intervention within one integrated process and a short time of 6 hours. Within this process, there are different roles and disciplines involved: medical scientists, biologists, (nuclear) physicists and engineers, who have to find novel work pattern in this highly interdependent process. Recent findings from biomedical research have been able to explain processes of the human body on a molecular level. Previously, cancer was mainly detected when a transformation of an organ or tissue had occurred. Recently, the focus has changed to the molecular level, such as a cellular or even smaller structure. This shift impacts the perspective of the diagnosis as well as therapy/intervention and it requires changes in previous applied techniques and processes. New kinds of methods and technologies are required for molecular intervention which are no longer solely focusing on organs and tissues but on molecular levels. Molecular intervention can increase the span of their lifetime up to a total healing of the patient. It includes all methods for diagnosis and intervention which operate at a cellular or even molecular level, not including surgical operation. The intervention procedure allows for the application of a personalized and precise medical treatment within a gentle, minimal invasive session for the cancer patient. The acquisition and analysis of malicious cells as well as the preparation and execution of the molecular intervention are supposed to be intertwined into a structured and holistic process.
