RPM Midwest got their new logo design by running a design contest:

The company is "Loop Start Technologies". We're in the telecommunications industry, and the term Loop Start is one of the original types of telephone lines that exist (home service today is still based on loop start lines). Our target market is VoIP resellers (clients), who in-turn resell our services to their customers. Their customers' are primarily business customers. We are a PaaS (Platform as-a Service) company, providing the back-end technology for you to put desk phones on your customers' desks with a cloud service. Our competition would be Vonage, 8x8, and the like... More generically, we are a technology company - and our deployment will be such that we're doing things a level above the rest. Our packages, products, and systems will be "above and beyond" (think "signature level"). A majority of our competitors tend to think "good enough" is good enough. Our goal will be to provide a "next level" experience, optimization, and less expensive than anyone else, so you (as a Reseller) can focus on growing your business, not worry about the back-end stuff that goes into being a Service Provider.
Other color requirements
A couple of preferred logo colors are: 8dc63f 097cf9 Logos should be able to be displayed/printed/rendered on Black or White, and to help reduce the "shock" of text color shift, it might make sense to make any non-graphic text, a variation of Gray (if so, here are some recommended, but not required, text colors): Text (when on Black): 8c8c8c Text (when on White): 737373 A metallic look (shimmer) to those colors wouldn't be a bad thing. All open space should be "transparent" to allow the surface/background color to come through (doing so "may" require a hairline black border to allow the logo to maintain definition when placed on a color that it blends with).
It all began with a design brief.
A quick, interactive guide helped them understand their design style and captured exactly what they needed in their logo design.
Designers across the globe delivered design magic.
RPM Midwest collaborated with designers to refine their ideas
When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.
99designs has great collaboration tools so you can pinpoint and capture your ideas
And then… they selected a winner!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
