This company is a small business that has at roots the competitive action pistol shooting disciplines (buzzer goes off and competitor tries to shoot several paper targets located in different shooting positions/locations as quickly and accurately as possible).
A quick search within YouTube for IDPA or USPSA can provide for some background of the sport. The interest is to expand competitor training offered today to other markets (think law enforcement and/or military) and to develop and market products directed at enhancing equipment within the sport.
Many of the products that enter the market place in competition are innovative in nature and will generally find themselves in the mainstream law enforcement and military communities over time.
We'd like to be perceived well by everyone from the pistol shooter who may be brand new to firearms out to law enforcement SWAT/Special Response Teams. Most logos focused on the latter tend to be very Rambo-ish or hyper-military and therefore alienate someone very new to the sport (women and young adults). We'd like to find a logo that has appeal to both sets and in between.
• Looking for a clean lines, creative, symbolic/modern logo that can maintain a serious element while not leaving the viewer thinking that this is a military business.
• In the same breath, we'd like to find something that is bold, strong, sharp, focused, and fairly simple.
• We'd like to port the use of the logo across different media such as a website, screen printed t-shirts, embroidered clothing (polos, hats/jackets, vests, etc). So 4-color process and shading would probably not work well with the latter.
• We'd like to incorporate symbolic line art of a bird of prey (hawk or falcon rather than an eagle which seems overused) that ties into view a sense of motion, power, etc. If it makes sense, incorporation of symbolic line art of a semi-automatic pistol could be used in place of a bird of prey such that it in some way can include elements of a bird. Or both a bird and pistol as in one of the sample images attached. No shotguns, no rifles, or no revolvers.
Some ideas, logos we've seen that have nice lines and emulate the simplicity we are searching for are attached.
Outside that, http://www.sevignyperformance.com has a logo that's got the idea we're after ... though it may be too simple ... but it does incorporate the symbolic nature of the view we want.
Please ask questions if you have any. Thank you in advance for considering to create and submit your idea!
