MAJOR DESIGN BRIEF OVERHAUL: We stripped out a lot of the original "what we want" examples because the entires were starting to blend and yet our panel didn't seem as enthused with the results as they originally had envisioned through the original theme scrapbook. Instead of producing entries that use the same pictorals as our sample logo selections, use your creativity to CREATE A FEELING.
The design should evoke a simpler elegance, luxurious feeling, serenity, empowerment, be understated, reflect superior quality, be regal, have a quiet dignity, suggest spiritual attainment, be transformational.
The sample icons we chose to display convey a warm serenity using
simplicity and minimalism. We used them to illustrate concepts, not to tell you to put a butterfly over the text. So, use simplicity and minimalism to create
We gave you some specific direction on colors and lines, but it's up to you to create from those building blocks. We would expect the ability to translate concept into form from some of the better freelancers out there at this contest level with a guaranteed payout.
We are encountering some frustration from beginner designers who want specific instruction as to minor tweaks when their designs do not even scratch the surface of visually impacting our review panel. Minor tweaks can happen as we get to the next stage, but for now, work on your message.
We'll leave it to you to interpret. Go off script and see if you can wow them (WE ARE GOING TO DELETE THE SCRAPBOOK SOON, we don't want to see the pictures that are in it, we want see the design elements such as colors and lines combined in your own special way to convey the feeling described above). Remember, these are consumers who don't like cheap-looking goods, and this has to create an emotional bond.
SCOPE: This logo will be used as the basis for and central focus of a forthcoming product label strategy, label design contest and webpage design contest. As such, it doesn't have to optimized for business cards or letterhead or anything, and it doesn't have to be on a white background unless you know of a good reason why it should be (please educate us). So keep this in mind and let your creativity out, knowing that it can be colorful and will be the "face" of future labels and overall product identity that will need to occupy some space, be clear and catchy, etc. In other words, you can think of it as the central brand identity of a forthcoming product family and website.
Even though this is a natural product we are trying to differentiate from the endless sea of earthtoned taupe and mild green hues you see on every other natural product out there. That's also why we want to keep the purple darker as to avoid the immature, superficial, artificial feelings that fake purples in candy and soda evoke. Dark luxurious purple almost like pomegranate juice, but not so dark that it looks sad and dreary.
EMBLEMS/PICTORAL: No clue what do say about meaningful emblems, pictoral or abstract marks. We definitely need some help here! We really think this could be a beautiful feature(s) but don't have the creativity to come up with a simple and elegant one that represents the product function.
BACKGROUND/TEXTURE: We are thinking the physical label and packaging will be matte deep purple to really stand out. Thinking that the label itself will have texture like linen paper, and the main "Purely Perfect" words and whatever embellishment & design you come up with will be stamped into the linen paper with ink that is metallic with a brushed-metal finish. The metallic quality will be muted, and not holographic or shiny.
SLOGAN: We will likely have a slogan to incorporate during the contest, but it depends on how the design is turning out. Keep that in mind and help incorporate (.....or not?). We'll try to get one out early so you can deal with lettering or correlated embellishments. See the product description for the 5 ways this supplement accelerates weight loss. Be thinking phrases like "comprehensive weight management compound" or "complete transformational weight loss accelerator" or "unleashing the perfect you". This is somewhat optional at this point because we can always incorporate later when designing the product labels and website. You tell us!
SUMMARY: We aren't packaging experts or designers. If you have credible expertise in designing things that sell, by all means, let us know or explain with pictures. Use your genius to delight us!
